Three routes into earning

The skills and ideas are there. What makes the difference is access: to premises, transport and equipment, to an employer ready to make an adjustment, and to a way into trading. Each route here leads to earning.

  1. BUILD

  2. WORK

    Genuine paid employment

  3. SHAPE

    What SHAPE involves

For disabled people, people with long-term health conditions, veterans and anyone facing barriers to work, and for the people who support them.

How to take part

How a route gets matched

  1. Listen and assess. What someone is good at, what they want, and what is actually in the way.

  2. Remove practical barriers. Access, equipment, transport, communication, adjustments.

  3. Match a real route. BUILD, WORK or SHAPE, whichever fits the person.

  4. Sustain and progress. Reviews that ask whether it is still working, and what comes next.

  5. Evidence what works. Record what happened and what we learned, and share it openly.

For partners

Fund, host, employ or partner on delivery, or commission paid co-design and accessibility testing through SHAPE.

The gap is wide. From April to June 2025, 52.8% of disabled people in the UK were in work, compared with 82.5% of non-disabled people. Source: DWP, The employment of disabled people 2025.

How we measure success

Success is what happens afterwards. We measure paid starts, earnings, retention, sustained trading, barriers removed and design changes.

Every result we publish comes with the method behind it and the limits of what it shows.

Four ways to get involved

Fund
an intervention, paid co-design, or evaluation.
Host
a venue, a trading pitch, a work or testing setting.
Employ
someone into a genuine paid role with proper adjustments.
Partner
by referring people, adding specialist expertise, or helping test the model.
